About this event

Event Details

Discover interesting and often untold stories of Texas during High Noon Talks, our free classic lunchtime talk series.

Rewind to the turn of the millennium and explore how Texans imagined the future through a look into 1990s Texas news media with Katharine Austin, curator for the Texas Archive of the Moving Image and their online exhibit, Rewind 2000 .

In anticipation of the Museum’s new special exhibition, The 90s: Last Decade Before the Future, opening November 14, relive the hype of the new “millennium,” a time that popular culture conceptualized not only as a measurement of 1,000 years but also as a singular moment when there were two possible outcomes at the stroke of midnight: a cataclysmic nightmare with fire and disaster or a utopian future with technological marvels and friendly aliens. Though neither of those extremes came to pass, the transition from 1999 to 2000 offers a unique view of how we saw the future and ourselves.

This program takes place in the Texas Spirit Theater and is FREE to the public.
