- ➤ Governor Abbott vetoed SB 3 on Sunday night—which would have banned most THC products and forced job losses—to the relief of Cedar Park hemp business J Heart CBD, where Store Manager Lizzie Taylor said the team is excited and will add new, better-regulated products. The veto shifts state policy to focus on regulation rather than an outright ban. FOX 7
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill on June 20 that bans students from using personal devices during school hours and gives school boards 90 days to set up rules. The law takes effect immediately—meant to reduce classroom distractions—and it passed with strong votes in both the House and Senate—showing lawmakers’ support for safer school environments. FOX 7
- ➤ Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill on June 20 that would let the state use permanent daylight saving time (Texas Time), but the change will only take effect if Congress passes a law allowing it. FOX 7
- ➤ Gov. Abbott signed House Bill 46 on Friday to expand the Compassionate Use Program but vetoed Senate Bill 3 on Sunday that would have banned THC products, and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said the program is now worthless because people can buy THC at smoke shops. Abbott has called for a special session beginning July 21 & lawmakers are expected to consider new regulations for THC consumables. FOX 7
