Valerie Calaway, MSN, FNP-C, MSCP
Valerie Calaway is a menopause-certified functional medicine nurse practitioner with more than a decade of experience working with women in midlife.
She helps women understand what's happening in their bodies, connect the dots, and cut through the noise surrounding perimenopause and menopause.
Known for her practical, evidence-informed approach, Valerie empowers women with the knowledge and tools they need to make confident decisions about their health and well-being.
Julie Spears, LCSW
Julie Spears is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of JoyFULL Connection. With more than 25 years of experience in behavioral healthcare and a thriving therapy practice in South Austin, Julie is passionate about creating spaces where women feel seen, celebrated, and fully themselves.
Julie believes people are inherently good and deserve warmth, empathy, and a whole lot of laughter. Through retreats, workshops, and community experiences, she helps women reconnect with themselves, cultivate meaningful relationships, and rediscover joy in every season of life.
Her South Louisiana roots taught her to "never meet a stranger," and her work is grounded in compassion, connection, and the belief that healing happens best in community.
A Friendship That Has Spanned Every Season
What makes this conversation especially meaningful is that Valerie and Julie aren't just colleagues. They're longtime friends. More than 20 years ago, Valerie and Julie met through mutual friends and quickly formed a connection that has lasted through some of life's biggest milestones. Not long after, both women discovered they were expecting babies... with the exact same due date!
Over the years, they have supported one another through pregnancy, newborn days, the challenges and joys of parenting, growing careers, raising families, and now navigating the realities of perimenopause and menopause.
Together, they bring not only professional expertise but also decades of lived experience, friendship, laughter, and honest conversations about what it means to move through life's transitions as women.
