About this event
From the ancient Greek concept of *Anthropos* — the idea of humanity as a single, unified being is — to modern biology's revelation that we share nearly identical genetic blueprints, I would pose the question is are we really just one and the same?
- If you had been born into someone else's body, family, and circumstances, would you not simply be them? And if so, are any of us truly unique or just a product of conditions we never chose?
- Does our desire to feel different from one another prove that we are not the same — or does the fact that we all share that same desire suggest that we are?
- Are different cultures simply variations of the same human condition (identity, belonging, etc)?
- If we are all one and the same, how do we explain the existence of cruelty? Would someone who truly felt their oneness with others be capable of causing harm?
- Does arguing that we are all the same risk erasing the very real pain of those whose differences: race, disability, trauma have been used against them?
- Why do cultures and societies that never meet each other independently develop the same concepts such as love, justice, and grief.
- If we accepted that we are all one, how would that change the way we treat each other — and why don't we already live that way?
