About this event
Over bagels and lox, pastries, fruit, mimosas, and coffee, we’ll explore a specially selected group of contemporary works with West Chelsea Contemporary’s executive director and two guests from Shalom Austin’s Toby Shor JGallery. Together, they’ll guide a lively, approachable conversation about what we see, how we interpret it, and how our own experiences shape the meaning we find in a work of art.
The morning will also bring a Jewish perspective to the conversation, exploring the connections between art, identity, storytelling, and the Jewish tradition of looking closely, asking questions, and considering more than one interpretation.
The selected works span artists and mediums, from the colorful pop-culture imagery of Jewish artist Geoffrey Gersten and Austin-inspired work of Mila Sketch to Simon Berger’s striking portraits created in hammered safety glass and Hunt Slonem’s instantly recognizable butterflies and bunnies. No art expertise required — just curiosity and a willingness to look a little closer.
Come for brunch. Stay for the conversation. You may leave seeing art, and perhaps the act of looking itself, a little differently.
