About this event
Rope wall yoga was first developed by BKS Iyengar, who used it as a prop to support and intensify his asana practice. He called the rope work “Yoga kurunta,” which means “Yoga puppetry.” The ropes work by using gravity as a natural form of resistance causing the body to open much further than in regular yoga practice which releases tension from the joints and deeply stretches the entire muscular-skeletal body. Rope poses are especially beneficial for spine health through use of traction to relieve pressure from vertebral discs which soothes compressed nerves and quiets the mind. They can also be used to create deep opening through the organic body, increasing extracellular fluid and blood flow to nourish the organs and tissues. Please let your instructor know prior to class if you have any of the following so she can give modifications. Common injuries such as: wrist, ankle, hip, muscle aches pains or strains. Back pain: disc herniations, sciatica, any diagnosed spinal conditions like stenosis, spondylolisthesis, rheumatoid arthritis, and degenerative disc etc Surgery of spinal or replacement joints. Scoliosis Pregnancy Menstruation Glaucoma, retinal detachment Hypertension and do not attend a yoga class at least 48 hours after the last episode of Diarrhea or Vomiting. *FOR THE SAFETY OF THE STUDENT, THIS CLASS MAY NOT BE ENTERED MORE THAN 10 MINUTES LATE* Please note: this class is not recommended for a complete beginner to yoga because it assumes a basic understanding of yoga poses and alignment. A rope wall class introduces new, complex movements that require existing body awareness. For beginners, we particularly recommend our Flow Yoga or Somatic Yoga offerings.
